COURSE OVERVIEW
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is the integrating element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS). It is a critical operations system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to collectively see the battle develop, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC is responsible for integrating individual components to create a global, networked, and layered missile defense apparatus capable of identifying, tracking, and intercepting ballistic missile threats in all phases of flight. The system is also utilized for planning missile defense engagements, situational awareness during engagements, managing missile trajectory calculation software, sensor management and control of missile defense radars, engagement monitoring, data exchange, and network management. C2BMC also displays information from various satellites to provide situational awareness on system status, system coverage, and ballistic missile trajectories. It provides coordination functions when multiple missile defense systems are used to engage a target.
C2BMC as a planning tool provides the capability to explore the effectiveness of various defensive plans. It supports three types of planning to cross all phases of military operations: Adaptive/Deliberate, Crisis Action, and Dynamic Planning.
The C2BMC Training Overview course is a 3-day course that provides an introduction and the fundamentals of the C2BMC system. The course discusses the reasons and requirements for C2BMC, the current BMD architecture, C2BMC functions, spiral development, current C2BMC status, and future directions and applications.
